REFLECTION

Finally, I have reach to the end of the course of ICT in Biology. Many I have learnt through this course.

Firstly, my perceptions towards the engage empower and enhance model, overall it is something interesting to be carry out when we go teaching at school someday. In engage, we try to build up student’s thinking by asking them some questions to attract their attention. We also need to have catchy title in our lesson to make the student more interest and try to involve them, and get them to be more focus in teaching and learning process.

We have to elicit their prior knowledge if it is wrong but before that, we need to be alert and give them opportunity to give off what they know. In the empower part, we brought the student to do some experiment based on what they have learnt during lesson time. By doing this, student will know exactly what are really happened. The use of data logger also makes it easier to be conduct and to take the accurate reading.

Then, in enhance model, we will give student one phenomenon which will make the student think critically and tried to related it with teacher’s lesson. They will ask more and this time, the teacher can explain more on it, or we can say it is for additional knowledge.
Actually, for me, the good values are there in these ICT. ICT is an enabler and benefit to person who used it wisely. We as teacher just need to utilize it and make a new atmosphere of teaching and learning process to make the students more understand. This way also will narrow the gap between students. This is because every student is different. The way they learn and grab the new information is not same as others. So, therefore, we need to have all these ICT that will make us easier.

It is also same with simulation, modeling, data logging, and smart board. They are all interactive and we as teacher need to diversify way of teaching. For example in simulation and modeling, it is lesson with colorful and a motion picture. Student therefore can think by themselves. Also student can conduct experiment, which are maybe cannot be done in reality in modeling part.

Anyway, there are also some difficulties in implementing these ICT in the school. Some student may at first not comfortable with the new atmosphere of learning. But we need to do it slowly. At the other side, some school is not equipped with the technologies. Application is not there yet. Therefore it is a bit hard for teacher to bring it and teach the student with a new method. Thus, government should aware about it and tried to think for a better way by having all teachers know how to deal with ICT.
